| Mastering
is the last part of the creative process before the mass reproduction
of your project to CD or DVD. In addition to ensuring correct track
order, levels and spacing, it is the last opportunity to fine-tune each
individual recording. Most importantly a Production Master is produced which must meet all the appropriate technical standards. A sub-standard master can only produce sub-standard product. Equalisation and Dynamics Control can be applied to balance the tracks against each other, and to ensure the optimum tonal quality and volume. Careful adjustment here can also be used to subtly shift the apparent mix of the instruments. Spacial Control can be added to alter the perceived sound image, as can additional reverb or special effects. Hiss, Hum and Clicks can be removed or minimised and excessive Sibilance, or “esses”, can be tamed. Digital Editing can be creatively used to replace beats, repeat choruses or compose new arrangements. Additional instrumentation or sound effects can even be added for further enhancement, if required. Mastering moulds a collection of songs into a coherent album. It is the critical link to ensure that the CD or DVD that comes back from the factory presents your music in the best way possible. |
